Here is a spreadsheet that calculates stress in a cantilever beam, i.e., your
elevated guy anchor. I include tables with many different sizes of standard
I-beams, pipe, square tubing, and angle. This was done for a major tower
upgrade at N6RO, 135 ft of Rohn 45G. We ended up with a 6x3 I-beam, elevated 5
ft and with 5 ft in the ground. I specified a robust foundation as well, with a
rebar cage derived from a tower base. The cage was surprisingly cheap, and
quickly fabricated by a local rebar shop. Our local steel supplier had a
variety of structural steel in their outdoor “excess" yard and charged us way
less than market price for a not-too-rusty beam that we then sent to the
galvanizer.
