I agree! It's the contact itself, not the means of finding it! As the
Internet takes off more and more, Wi-Fi access points will become more and
more prolific, ham radio and the Internet will continue to merge. I am not
saying the technologies will completely merge, but they are doing so more
and more. There are many modes that are already like this (D-Star, Echoling,
IRLP, HSMM/Hinternet).
I have been watching and see a lot of people seem to think this is unfair. I
compare this to FD stations. Some people have huge antenna farms, some have
tower trucks, some have amplifiers. Some run 5 watts out of a tent with a
battery. What differences them from other stations?
Classifications/multipliers!
How about a compromise. A different set of multipliers or a new
classification for FD? The goal of classification/multipliers seems to be to
balance the scale. I am slightly uncomfortable because this can lean toward
the 'captive rover' mentality if it's a direct contact, such as a cell phone
call, however.
That's just my thought. Let's grow technology and move forward, not stifle
creativity.
I am sure that this will be an unpopular thought with some though and I
apologize in advance for all of you who I offend. Then again, as with any
changes, people are uncomfortable. I remember when DX Clusters came out and
there were people who felt that was cheating and if you used them you should
at least have to work more countries to get DXCC.
I entertain thoughts directly back to me at joeserocki@gmail.com.

AGREED !! In the end, you still have to complete the QSO and the exchange
via the radio link before you can count the Q.
Been trying to drive home that point for over 35 years of VHF-UHF contesting
now..........

Why not eliminate all potential for cheating by
changing the rule to allow non-amateur means for skeds
in VHF contests? People at the contest branch have
better things to do than monitor Ping Jockey to catch
Joe Blow. Besides, what's the difference between using
the telephone before the contest and using the
telephone during the contest to arrange a sked if the
object is to complete a QSO via radio? None.
