Ah yes, now we get the conspiracy theorists who think that the real 
reason for the proposed rules changes is to cause the demise of the
contests by slowly killing it (in an effort to fool us all, haha!) 
instead of just abruptly stopping their expensive sponsorship of 
contests for a bunch of ungrateful, complaining hams (which they 
could also do.)

The ARRL will continue to sponsor VHF+ contesting no matter how the 
rules get changed.

I'm not sure what that would accomplish, aside from saving the League a 
little bit of money.  Personally, I think QST is the best general-interest
ham radio magazine there is today.
