Self-spotting is merely the equivalent of calling CQ by non-ham means.  To me, it never made sense to permit the use of non-ham communications networks for the purpose of improving your score while contesting.

However, there's no point in griping about it now - the damage has been done, and I think I know who has been largely responsible.
