[VHFcontesting] Farthest FM Contact

I vaguely remember someone telling me of working California to Hawaii on an HT 
via tropo ducts on 2 meters (if only we had those Pacific ducts in the north 
Atlantic).  People have also made contacts on slow CW using FM rigs keyed by 
the mike switch.  I've heard E's on 2 with strong enough signals that contact 
over 1000 miles would be easy with 5 W on FM.
