Hi Bill,
I have to say that *much* depends on the power budget
required.

For instance, I've Roved using an extra car battery as
a power source. It would power my rover transceivers
and amps for long enough to "drain the bands" of QSO's
from one grid. I'd then charge it from my car battery
during the trip to the next grid...and do it all
again.

A couple of weekends ago (the 10 GHz and Above event)
I used a car battery all day long, powering a 2m
transceiver, 80 watt amp and 10 GHz transverter, 5w
amp and 2m IF.

At other ends of the spectrum, you'll find folks with
multiple batteries in parallel, with west marine
"stackers", etc.

It is best to understand what you really need, given
the amount of juice you'll need and design to that.

Regards,
Ev, W2EV
