Hi Bruce,

Directional control for 240V motors generally requires a different
configuration of switching functions than for 120V because the start windings
need 120V to operate which is generally derived between the non-thermally
protected phase connection and the center tap of the series connected run
windings. These connections are reversed to change directions. For 120V
operation it's much simpler - just reverse the start windings between phase and
neutral to change directions and engage them in tandem with the parallel wired
run windings. In my experience, converting a reversible motor controller
from 120V to 240V is not just a matter of rewiring but typically requires
different/additional relays and/or switches depending on the original
configuration. Alternatively, using a 240v drum-type reversible motor control
switch might be easier than redesigning what you have.

Hope this info is helpful and good luck on your project.

Subject: [TowerTalk] Control box

I have resurrected my 40+ year old Tristao motoized tower and was wondering if
anyone has a motorized tower with damage or they have given up on and want to
part with the on tower control box.. Mine still appears to work but finding
anyone skilled enough to help me get it switched to 220 and wired to the new
motor has really become a full time job that has tried my limited aged
patience. The box is as old as the tower and everything does appear to switch
properly but I can find nothing on getting it to 220 and wired properly . I
know I can most likely do a lot of damage trying but……..would like to skip that
part if possible. This is just a thought but I need to get it running as I hear
a rumor around here in SE Wis that winter is only a few months away.

Thanks,
  Bruce K9RO
