There was a time in my career in electronics servicing when I came in contact
with quite a bit of
relays, contactors etc but always steered away from using silicone near relays
or motors.
So while silicone is used by many in the automotive industry as Tom explained,
I am still very reluctant to bring it near any
switch, or relay.

And BTW, it also contains hydrocarbon groups , a methyle, (CH3) that is very
volitile.
