You are right! But...until one acquires a rig with FSK capability, AFSK
permits one to get on the air in this fine mode. Done correctly (and I
don't say that I do, yet) AFSK is undetectable from FSK.

I'm a little old fashioned and believe that RTTY should ALWAYS be done using
FSK for sending. If one wants to use AFSK, there are plenty of modes that
originated using that method. PSK31 is a very good one. I know AFSK was used
back in the old days for some RTTY using AM but the good signals were always
FSK.
CW, RTTY, and old John Deere tractors. They are all old , sound good, and
still work!
