Mike/va3mw, it’s not the EXCHANGE Randy and I are commenting on……it’s when the
runner is CQing and being called.
ie:
me: WPX VE9AA VE9AA CQ
you: VE9AA de VA3MW VA3MW
Why would anyone do that? Send your call once, twice, three times. I KNOW my
call.
This behaviour is not present on CW or SSB.
THAT is what we’re talking about….the initial call of a S&P to a Runner.

This is the default N1MM exchange in S&P
F2 Exch,{TX}{ENTER}! {EXCH} {EXCH} {MYCALL} {RX}
And, I think it is correct. I might have copied your call only once and I am
not going to wait around in S&P mode for a few of your cycles of you are run
especially since many only send QRZ and not their call. It isn't as bad as it
used to be, but 1 in 10 stations do not send their call with their QRZ message
evertime. There is only a finite number of contacts that can be made. :) 6
more seconds won't make any difference, except for Mike ve9aa who is reading
his email at the same time. (his words, not mine).
It makes sense from both sides.

I swear, Randy was reading my mind. It's almost exactly what I wrote in my
3830 report last night.
Is there a software package out there that this is the default S&P macro for
RTTY?
Pretty sure it's not N1MM+ that has this as a default.
95% of very casual ops won't/don't read this list, so it's up to us to put
those comments in our 3830 reports, here (yes, most won't read it) , our
local clubs, DX clubs, contest clubs etc and inform those just starting out
in contests. WE need to reach out to those writing software, who are amazing
coders, but maybe not contesters, to "fix" this. Grumbling here is great,
but we need to go beyond that. I operate almost no RTTY (but was on during
'WPX this past weekend), so it's not going to be me
to reach out to the programmers, etc. but I have mentioned this to our local
contest club which has a few newbies.
Remember, if it weren't for the casual ops, newbie and wander-by's, we'd
have very few others to work !

CU (all of a sudden!) in the next one.
