Louie makes an important point. If you only think you know what you are
doing, then you really don't. It cost me about $120 to have a pro come in
and put in a line in conduit across my basement from the breaker panel to
the amp outlet box, hammer drilled to the basement wall. This covered
labor, breaker, wire, conduit, outlet, and box plus hangers etc. $120
isn't much to keep me from getting killed and/or burning down the house.
Why a pro? Pros do this all the time; they work fast and spot things you
won't see. They have the tools and supplier contacts to do the job right.
They also will do things to avoid future problems with other wiring you may
need on down the line because after seeing hundreds or thousands of houses,
they have a head for future trouble. Also, if things suddenly and
unexpectedly turn sour they have the experience to quickly get out of
trouble. You, unless you happen to be a licensed electrician by trade, do
not possess these skills. Don't make the mistake of thinking a ham license
makes you an expert on all types of electricity. Do yourself a favor--If
you can afford a $3.5K amp you can afford a few bucks for a wire.
