Hmm... Well, I just did some more testing. On some of the bands 17 and
above, I sometimes seem to be able to get the ALC to start flashing again
when I whistle or speak very loudly if I turn the mike gain WAY up. The
power also goes up to full output on those peaks, but the audio is VERY
distorted. However, there is nothing similar I can do to raise the CW
level.

When I turn on the speech processor on any band, the power drops to about
50%, the ALC will not light any longer, and the audio is very distorted, no
matter the mic gain is set. I can get the power up to full, and the ALC to
flash with the compressor on, but only if I turn the compression to 9, but
it is REALLY distorted. It DOES sound louder in the monitor as crank up the
compression, but distorted at all levels.

I had this problem in my Triton 2.
Well a similar problem.
Sometimes the audio would go dead.

Using the eraser end of a pencil, I tapped around on all of the components
of the audio board until I found a section of the board which seemed to
cause it to go on and off if I tapped it.

I removed the board and re-soldered everything near and in that area.
The problem was solved.
I can't say which component actually had the cold solder joint, but at least
it now works.

My Argosy has developed an annoying problem. The audio level (I think)
goes to or approaches zero. If I repower, audio returns to normal until
it happens again. As I am using it primarily for QRP and running 5
watts I don't know - can't tell if it is affecting output.

I am open to suggestions regarding where I can start poking. It has
both a standard 220 SSB crystal filter as well as the audio cw filter
but the problem seems to occcur regardless if either or none of the
filters are selected.
