As Dave said, you really do need the manual, and if you are that unfamiliar with mucking around inside radios it probably would be worth sending it to TenTec and have them solder the board for a fee.

If someone would be so kind to lead me to the offending boards I would
appreciate it. I have a Paragon and am totally unfamiliar with the anatomy
of this rig.  Perhaps a picture or two of the boards that may require
re-soldering.

My Paragon had that problem - its easy to fix by resoldering the PLL
modules.  I didn't find it necessary to pull all the parts off, etc... I
just reflowed the solder and the problem hasn't been back since.

Mine had a bad solder joint due to temperature variations that
eventually allowed a part lead to pull loose from the solder blob on the
PCB.  Re-flow fixed it.
