Don't you think that any reference to awards is misleading in this respect?
Wouldn't it be better to make it explicitly clear: Logs submitted or postmarked
after the deadline may be listed in the results, but for reference only, and
respective entries will not be considered as taking part in the competition."
Or in other words, if you build a rule regarding conditions of provision of
awards, either paper or PDF ones, it's OK. But if you want to cut late logs off
the competition completely, why awards are even mentioned?

The rules of the CQ WPX Contest state clearly that "C. Logs submitted or
postmarked after the deadline may be listed in the results, but are not
eligible for awards."
This means not eligible for first place, second place, or last place awards.
