Hello Al and fellow 222 ops.

Tuesday night was interesting. I spent a lot of time trying to work some stations beyond my normal range. It was fun, but quite non productive. I worked no one "out there" for my efforts. Stations were on that I have worked in the past, but this time, they did not make it into my log either.  With so many stations on and scurrying around, it is easy to miss a few. The exceptionally deep QSB last night was another factor. If you tried at the wrong time, things would not "click". I looked at Good Buddy Ron's log and saw several stations that never made it up here in the north. AA2SD and N1ROZ, and KC2SGV were never heard. I also missed WA2LTM, but that was a timing issue. Douglas always puts a great signal up into Maine.  WA4YA was also on and I missed Christian. We just never connected. He is quite local in the Beantown area. I ended up with 28 QSOs and the log is listed below.

It was great to see some activity fro the Toronto area.  VE3DS had tremendous QSB going from 579 to about 529 depending on how long you listened. N2JMH and W2BYP were very FB copy at over 500 km. I think N2JMH was running a 222 MHz Amplifier Project PA and it sounded great.  WB2RVX at 519 km was good coy. NZ3M was another 500+ km contact at 598 km.  I am still waiting to hear VE3KG from FN24. He has a 500 watt version of the 222 MHz Project Amplifiers.  600+ km QSOs include N2OA, K1RZ, VE3DS, and WA3DRC.   Beyond the 700 km range was old faithful WA3EOQ at 805 km.

I tried a bit with K3SK on FT8 and decoded nil. (900+ km) Later on we tried for awhile on Q65B and K3SK decoded me probably by meteors. I did not decode anything from K3SK. I also tried with K9MRI. We went for about 8 or 10 minutes. We got nowhere.  Still, if you don't try these skeds you have zero chance of working them. Joe, K9MRI and I have had pretty good luck with meteors. We are about 750 miles apart. That is an easy distance on 222. (hint hint!)

So I missed 30 QSOs last night, but not by much. That is a good sign. Activity levels are going in the right direction.  The forecast Solar excitement pooped out again. A wave of fast moving plasma was supposed to hit Earth on Tuesday. It missed and conditions did not reflect any auroral activity. I checked a few times, but nothing detected. Hopefully the next X flare is aimed toward Earth and will trigger some aurora for us deserving folks. Imagine what it would be like if we got a big aurora on a Tuesday night!!!

CU next week.

I started out on SSB and went to FT8 to look for stations West and Southwest of me.  The beam was pointed SSW when I worked Phil (NUF).  I had moved the beam to his direction when I heard Jim (N2JMH) and worked him off the back of the beam.

All of the SSB signals were strong.  After working WZ1V on SSB I (briefly) heard another signal in there but that didn't develop.  I also worked Ron on FT8.  That…just for the fun of it.

Thanks to all who came out last night and, from the appearance of the ON4KST chat page, there were a lot.
