I seem to remember someone at one time posting a technical reason as to why 902 MHz made more sense than 903 MHz, from the perspective of significantly reduced QRM from Part 15 devices. Of course, this also places operation 1-MHz closer to cellphone activity as well.

If your transverter is capable of operating on either, then try to remember that as you attempt to make a marginal contact on the band. If time allows for it, try to make the grade on "the other" frequency and see if that simple move gets you better results.

The "calling frequency" is not legislated...it's simply a common understanding among a group of folks. Operate wherever you get results...just know where you are operating. :)
