I have also been wondering what will happen activity wise with a mode like WSJT.
It seems to me (based on description) to be much more like operating PSK31 and
given
that that mode has seen huge growth I have been wondering if more folks will
get on WSJT than have gotten on HSMS so far.
For my own part - I have never gotten very excited about making schedules
to make QSOs in a contest or otherwise. Perhaps it is because of my HF
contesting background that I find making schedules before the contest
so distasteful. In fact the only sked that I really find acceptable are
ones made during the contest on one of the contest bands and on the
contest mode(s). So as a result I have not done any HSMS so far since most
of the activity seems to be sked based. I am sure this has hurt our scores
at W5KFT some.
As far as WSJT goes - I have been planning to check it out - it sounds like it
might be fun to get on and make some random QSOs. If I have to use this mode
to make a bigger score in a VHF contest or to stay among the stop scorers it
really
takes some of the fun out for me. Will I get on an duse this mode in the
contest?
Maybe - will I look forward to it - not really - after all I dont like RTTY
contests
for the same reasons.
I hate to sound so down - I like new modes - I was very active on packet
in the local area very early on and had lots of keyboard to keyboard QSOs -
that
was great fun - I have even gotten on RTTY and PSK31 but I would not look
forward
to a VHF contest where I have to operate a digital mode to make half of my mult
total.
