Maybe what we users are asking for is a menu-selectable NR algorithm, one  
optimized for CW (similar to the present one) and the other for SSB.  A  
software issue, not necessarily requiring a new radio.

Noise Reduction "NR" :   I mostly agree with Carl.   My gear is Omni VI 
Opt-3

and opt-1 on a second unit.  SSB is a  significantly "modified" sound 
making 
it more difficult to understand due  to the lack of sibilance.  However, 
personally I like the "modified"  sound when copying CW.  I would describe 
it

as "enhanced".   On CW,  I use speeds up to 35 wpm or so with the "NR"  
always
