Stuart provides some excellent basic trouble shooting techniques.

Most problems are simple, often related to "what was being done before this 
happened" type situation.  Don't start out with the idea that one has to 
have a Princeton MBA and a Harvard PhD to deal with the basics of electronic 
troubleshooting.  It's only a radio and thus it is not interstellar rocket 
science.

Should you decide to dig deeper, be sure you have a complete and correct 
manual for the equipment.
