That reminds me...I have one of those all shop dust collectors. The
blower, in this case, used for suction, has a 3 HP, 120VAC motor and the
fan is about 16" in diameter. It has the sound you are looking for and
as it speeds up, or shuts down you can hear the relays kick out.
Another ham who does a lot of wood working and metal work as well, has
one a *bit* larger with all his equipment hooked in. That one is 220VAC.
You turn them around and set it up to blow instead of suck. It's amazing
what they'll pick up at the end of a 40' hose and they will run several
at once so turned around they will move a LOT of air.
It's not quite the one Bill is talking about but I'm sure it can muster
at least 5 or 10 PSI, but it is quite likely capable of blowing 3-500s
and 4-1000 right out of the sockets. Again, as above you'd probably want
to mount it outside. OTOH the air coming out of the cabinet would
probably be a lot louder than most ham amps with the cooling in high
gear and some what akin to when I blow down my 80 gallon air compressor
tank. Even remote mounted it'd require a head set and directional (noise
canceling) mike.
4, 4-1000s might look impressive but it might be a beast to tame and
difficult to get to work all the way through 10 meters.
