Wow,
What a great discussion. Lot's of opinions on both sides of the issue.
I think this is great, and worth the contest sponsors time and effort to
think it over, and I hope they do. I have been in the hobby for a few years
(43) and have seen a lot of emotion on all kinds of issues, good and bad but
one thing always happens, things change, one way or another, things will
change. Why does it always seem that people are afraid of change, is it
because they are comfortable with their present situation, or afraid of what
might happen in the future?
I do not operate SO2R, and at this point, I don't think that I want to, but
that could all change in the future. Looking at all of the reply's to the
issue sure makes you think, doesn't it? Not everyone has your point of view,
do they?
Well, I respect both sides of the issue, think the horse is pretty bruised
and just wants to relax in the pasture.
Hopefully the contest sponsors are aware of this discussion, and not afraid
to step up to the plate and make some changes.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and
hoping for a different result. If you change the way you do things, then
they seem to improve because you get a different result.
I would like to suggest that they leave the rules the same, but separate
SO1R and SO2R. Then they would have the same people doing the same thing,
which might sound stupid, but competing with each other. The only difference
then is they are competing in their own class. Hopefully this would make the
SO2R guys happy and the SO1R guys happy.
I know this sounds so simple and easy, but you never know, someone may
listen, and not be afraid to change.
Sooner or later, this SO2R horse beating will change, hopefully before the
poor bruised horse dies.
Oh yeh, I forgot to mention one really important thing here - it's only a
hobby!
