(1) The R-390 is not totally an "old radio of the past". The A version was
built well into the mid-1980's. I'm 6 years older than my much older than
that "old radio of the past". Which makes me an "even older radio operator
of the past" I suppose :-)
(2) The R-390 has an L/C IF and is perhaps the best AM receiver of all time,
with a few minor tweaks requiring no firmware, especially when the output is
fed to a buzzardly tube amp of good power and a decent speaker system. It's
a bit heavy ...
(3) The R-390A, although it has the same bandwidth selections as the R-390,
has mechanical filters, and is a relatively poor AM receiver because of it,
no matter what is done to it, and it's heavy, too :-)
Gotta set the record straight :-) (Don't yell, my tongue is planted in my
cheek)
