No doubt there are some tremendous possibilities here.
There is no good technical reason why all new ham
IF-DSP based gear shouldn't be able to provide a
similar kind of digital signal output for outboard
signal processing.
While providing direct radio to sound card audio
interfacing such as the 516 and Orion will is a step
in the right direction, it is not really that
revolutionary. Providing raw or minimally processed
data streams however would be. Obviously for it to
ever be truly successful the factory must provide
solid programming support to third party software
developers to take full advantage of it.
