You might also try Springboro, Ohio. I missed the Hamvention last year
but went a couple years ago after deciding to go at the last minute. I
stayed at a Hampton Inn. The distance from Springboro to Xenia isn't
much further than what it is from downtown Dayton because you cut over
on I-675, which is the bypass around the east side of Dayton and right
towards Xenia. It's also only a 20 minute drive to the Crowne Plaza if
you want to go to the contest suites.
As Hans mentioned Miamsburg is also a good choice. There are also a lot
of hotels between the north part of Cincinnati (I-275) and downtown
Dayton (on I-75) I used to live in that area of Cincinnati and it's
about a 35 minute drive to downtown Dayton from there. It would probably
take an hour to get to Xenia.
If you are coming from outside of the US It also might be easier and
cheaper to fly to Cincinnati (CVG) than the Dayton airport. The airport
in Dayton has drastically lost service over the past 5 years. They have
a daily non-stop from Paris to CVG on Delta. It's also still a focus
city for Delta and you could get there easily with just stop in Atlanta
from just about anywhere in the world. Domestically there are also lots
of low cost airlines that fly to CVG. Columbus, Ohio (CMH) is also a
good choice and is only and hour away.
