I know folks who don't like or agree with the speed demon cw ops won't fully
"get this" but sending fast, up to a point wins major HF contests. (like
CQWW CW & ARRL DX CW)

 

If going slow-or slowER won, then the winners would all be sending at your
suggested 20 or 25wpm.

 

And no, it's not an ego thing , it's a math thing.  You have a fixed length
of time. (Say 48hrs for CQWW CW) and only 48hrs/.

If you do the math, long CQ's, multiple repeats,. even a 3x3 callsign all
TAKE TIME.  One way to reduce the time per QSO is to send fast.

 

It's really just as simple as that.  Nothing more.

 

People tend to get really bent out of shape listening to folks sending at 35
or 40wpm but if they are making QSO's from usually rare QTH's and big
stations, that's what wins contests.

 

YMMV and I'll understand if you disagree.
