As I have said before, I (and others north and east of me when they were
active) get on to have some fun and take advantage of high activity to
get QSOs that are otherwise unavailable. You can't be a contester from
here except for competing against yourself.
I don't care how QSOs are arranged as long as the QSO itself is
completed by radio. Some of my best and most fun QSOs usually come from
coordination via ON4KST chat.
I doubt having a few minutes of SSB/CW activity every hour would help me
at all. In such short windows it is unlikely many will point this way. I
can make 500 mile contacts on 2-222-432 but people must be pointed
right at me.
I will continue to try to get some fun out of contests but with FT8
cutting down on fun and making it more difficult to arrange running
bands, the return on investment has dropped considerably. If it weren't
for ON4KST chat I probably wouldn't waste my time getting on for the
major contests any more.

As we all know, WSJT has changed everything about V/U/uW contesting.
I don't blame people for wanting to mostly QSO via WSJT: If you don't have
a mountaintop QTH, it's the best way to maximize your QSOs, and the amount
of time it takes to
make a QSO is not as important as MAKING THE QSO.
That said, it is extremely difficult to move to other bands, or ask
stations to move to other bands if you are making a QSO via WSJT.
Yes, we allow any means to make skeds: phone calls, chat rooms, texting,
etc. Is that what people are preferring today?
I have two questions:
- Would people be interested in having a few times per hour where they
would switch to SSB/CW from WSJT (say 2 minutes every 30?)
During those periods, QSOs on a band could be made, or making schedules for
other bands could be accomplished.
- Or, do most of you prefer non-amateur-means to sked?
