Get 50 MHz as high as you possibly can. For low angle work, the higher the
better. Anything up 30 ft will beat a beam at 6 or 8 ft for long ground wave
or diffraction path QSOs. I guess if the band is wide open, height is not
as important for some contacts. Still a small lighytweight dipole or omni up
high will outperform anything else that is low. I would try to have
something like a push up mast that could be employed quickly. If not that,
you still want something as high as possible. A big difference between 50
and 144 MHz for sure!!
