I expressed that inquiry poorly. I was inquiring about the upcoming UHF
contest in August and if 144.265+/- was the only liaison frequency?

Has anyone on the list used the Yaesu FT450 yet, and can you comment on the
receiver performance under contest and crowded band conditions. Also, how does
the DSP and the NB work on it?

Yes! I got one way back in March, and used it for the 6
meter sprint, all following contests, and a few band
openings. It is currently installed in my rover vehicle,
and outperforms the FT 897 with the SSB filter installed.
Lots of features normally found on rigs costing thousands
more, but not overly cluttered up with stuff you don't
need. IF DSP Noise Reduction that REALLY WORKS! Great RX
sensetivity. With the hand mike that comes with it, and
the DSP microphone equalizer set "flat" I have received
excellent audio reports... Oh yeah, a noise blanker that
actually gets rid of most powerline noise! I have yet to
find a station here in the PNW who can "crush" the front
end on this thing. Huge dynamic range.

It borrows much of its circuitry from its "big brother" the
FT 2000, so if you have that box and want something smaller
for field use with near equal performance, the FT 450
should work FB. If you also have the FT 817, 857 or 897,
you will find the menu system remarkably similar, so the
"learning curve" for this rig really only involves the
tricks needed to set up the things that the FT 450 posesses
uniquely, like the two voice memories and the like.

IF you do RTTY it makes REAL FSK!!! Or can be configured to
do all the AFSK modes as well.

I do believe it is the least expensive HF/6 meter radio on
the market which posesses IF DSP.

I'm glad to hear it performs well because it sure is an ugly looking
beast. I've made two trips so far this week to the local HRO to play
with rigs and see which one I want for my new mobile and the when I
look at the 450 it always reminds me of an old Alinco I used to have.
Unfortunately, I probably haven't played with the buttons as much as I
have with the IC-7000 and TS-480HX because of the looks. Who knows,
it is still on my short list however.

Of course an ugly looking high performing rig is better than a nice looking
piece of crap!

Very true, and it would definitely be at the top of my short list, if
not already in my car, if it had a remote-able front panel. I don't
really have much room to mount it anywhere unless I force passengers
to sit in the back seat or I buy a new car. :-) So, it is still a
tough call for me.

I have the following amps for sale. They are the conversions of the AM 6154
and 6155. I have the amps on 144,222,and 432. The 144 amp is working great
with 400 out. The 432 and the 222 amp have full output tubes in the but have
stopped working. I used them one day and the next no work. I have checked the
power supplies and they are ok. The problem seems to be in the tuning cavities
. The tubes are full output in the 144 amp. I have 3 Dow Key relays and
jumpers to go with the amps. I also have a NEW spare 8930.
The reason I am selling I have other planes in the works for bigger amps.
I would like to sell all this at one time or trade for something . I am
asking 800.00 for all the stuff and I can meet someone within 125 miles of
Columbia, S.C. I will be at the Asheville hamfest at the end of the month also
.I will have them with me if I do not sell before time.

thanks Randy
