Grid circling exists because of an anomaly in the rules. The principal
driving force behind success of all other participants is operator or
technical skill building ... except Rover-category stations. There is
no practical reason for this. The fix is easy: summative scoring. That is to say, add the score one attains at each grid to arrive at a final score. As a rover (yes, I have been one), I would be encouraged to build a rover-station that can be noticed by others, and to contact as many others as possible before exiting a grid. What is to encourage rovers to visit rare-er grids? The desire to become more sought after (the same thing that encourages all DXpeditions). What if the rare grid is in a distant location? Then one is encouraged to build a rover that can get noticed from that distant location (just like everyone else). This addresses the leveling of the score-calculating playing field -- an artificial entity at present. Calculate the score of a 5-pack of rovers armed only with a LASER traveling through 50-grids under the present rules vs their score using summative scoring. This "return to scoring normalcy" does not address the geographical or populational playing field (which is an entirely different issue). Ev, W2EV
