I've used that stuff quite a lot, although I usually put a layer of teflon plumbing tape over the connector itself first in order to make sure I can remove everything in the future.  Hot glue isn't always easy to remove.  I just make sure that the heat shrink tubing extends an inch or two past the teflon tape for the seal.

I buy the adhesive lined heat shrink tubing on eBay ... there is tons of it there.
