K8LX is correct regarding proper taper. Back in the 80's I had a very
heavy-duty Telrex 20m beam that rattled like crazy. Most of my Yagis now are
homebrew and I used the ARRL taper schedule. My 20m element tapers from Ø1
1/4 to Ø1/2 and they do not rattle. There is nothing wrong with a 1/2 tip
if the element is properly designed. In my opinion, rope is just a Band-Aid

Someone suggested the rope-in-element trick, which cured the problem
