When I homebrewed a trap dipole, I used stubs of RG8-ish
coax as capacitors. I trimmed the stubs using a pair of
wire cutters. However, when I hit it with power, the cut end of
the stubs arced. I learned that I needed to trim only the jacket
and shield.

And, of course, if the capacitor is in a circuit carrying high power,
you'll need to compute things like voltage breakdown ...
