It is getting difficult to crank up.
Should the pully/axle assemblies be greased....

Mike,
I've got a H.B. coil loaded (@26' for 75, and then more coil at base for 160),
42' vertical for 160/75/40 and for a shunt coil I used, IF I remember
correctly, 1.5' dia and about 8 turns of 12 gauge. That's what I had laying
around. Spread or compress until I got the best match. Over 32 ea 32' radials
the BW is narrow on 160 (maybe 50 kc), better on 75 (100 +/- kc), and entire
band on 40. Hope this helps.

Hi Rick,
My guess is that it is probably the pulley bearings in bad condx. One of
the pulleys could be rubbing as it turns too. I replaced the bearings
on 3 pulleys on my tower. Crank it down, block it up so it is safe and
inspect the pulleys individually. Bet you will find some that turn
pretty hard and the bearings are shot. The bearings can be replaced
depending on your tower. Mine are pressed into the aluminum pulley
sheaves. I order new bearings and pressed in the new ones.
What tower do you have ?

I have a very old DX Engineering Yagi Stacking control box I am trying to
find some info on. I think it's late 80's/early 90's vintage.
I believe it was acquired from a W7 6m Dxer friend back in the mid 90's.
(but it was already somewhat old then). I don't know the history of DX
Engineering, but did it once reside on the west coast by different folks>?
The grey faced, black cabinet control box has a rotary switch for settings
UPPER/LOWER/STACK (with matching LED's) and a simple on/off toggle.
I am nearly certain it uses only 3 wires for control, though the terminal
strip has more than 3 connections.
I used it on my 6m stack before I moved to my current location in 2004, so I
don't recall what's needed at the tower end for phasing/matching coax
cables.
Ie: Is it 50Ohm? 75Ohm? 1/2wl? 1/4wl? Which connections? I have to redo
the remote part as I took it out of service due to a faulty relay or
connections, best as I recall (Hey, I don't throw much away, hi)
IIRC I might have had another remote switch to put them both out of phase,
but don't know where that is. I don't see anything in the box to be able to
do that, so I presume I did it with an external remote switch added to this
to perform that function. (as an aside, I seldom used BOP..wouldn't waste my
time if I ever stack 2m 6m yagis again, hi!)

Update: I don't know how I missed this before but I finally found a very
similar unit that was for sale some years back in w7.

I see by the sale ad it needs 2 x 1/4wl 75Ohm matching sections of coax.
Mine does not have the rotary knob numbered 1-2-3-4, nor do I think the
remote part has an N-connector for input (I have to dig it out of the shed
to be 100% certain)
*(I am not sure what the 4th position would even be for?)
So, any ideas how I can use this to phase 2 verticals to give me perhaps 3
different patterns ?
Anybody even seen or used one of these before?

Those Yagi Phase Boxes were made by N0XX. I used them for years without
issue. I probably still have a couple in my junk box. If I remember
correctly you use 1/4 WL 75 ohm coax for the phase lines.
