Bob,
I suspect that when you put the Hornet up you failed to use a anti-seize 
compound to prevent the U bolt and nut from cold welding. Then when you 
tried to remove the U bolts the nut was welded to the U bolt. That is why it 
was so hard to remove. Google Anti-Seize Technology.
