The MFJ is a fine device *but* the problems I experienced during my
stint in Tanzania were not helped much by it. The MFJ-1026 will do a
great job of nulling power line noise coming from a single direction.
My problem in Dar es Salaam is that there was power line noise coming
from a number of directions. The 1026 was of little help in that case.
Ralph 5H3RK was only about a half-mile away from me but he lived in an
area which was much quieter. He heard DX stations much better than I did.

Perhaps a coax-loop will help. I used one many yars ago and the silence
from noise was very convincing. If he has access to enough RG-58 U or
similar
coaxcable to make a loop, it may be worth trying.
