Mike etc:
It would be good to check the temperature of the 500 pf capacitor
after operating for a while. Some caps, typically ceramic, heat up
with RF current.
I had a series circuit with a vacuum variable and a 330 pfd 15 KV
ceramic in parallel to tune out inductive reactance. The ceramic cap
heated up enough to change value. I ended up using a 250 pfd vacuum
as a padder for the vacuum variable, ending the heating problem.

Many thanks to all the replies about the antenna question. It was a good
day. Got the amplifier running, about 700 watts output. The antenna was a
breeze thanks to all the good advice.
I fooled around a bit with a broadcast/fm radio variable capacitor and the
analyzer. I had a 500 pf 25 kv capacitor left over from the amp. Put it
in series, and, like magic the antenna was resonant.
Again many thanks for all the help. Hope to hear you all on the band soon.
