Hi Mike,
Hang in! I’ve invested heavily in TenTec over the years.
Have a pair of Orions (565 and 566) and Alpha 8100 I bought new from old TT
company and Alpha, before RKR.
I like current physical layout of Orion and Orion II. The functional layout
using multi-function encoders seems a tad weak. I’ve encountered several
encoder failures in both of my radios, maybe just the luck of the draw,
perhaps. I don’t consider myself a heavy/abusive pusher on the encoder. I’m
not sure current encoders can sustain the “quantity of push’s” over an extended
ownership period. I tend to keep my radios once I find what I like… so
longevity and maintenance is bigger decision factor for me.
Love operating my ORIONs, wish the footprint was smaller, hi. I know that
doesn’t fit well in keeping with same form factor mold.
Best 73,
Steve - W5JK
