It's not the main cpu chip or EPROM. It would be called "battery backed
up RAM". I don't have schematics anymore so I can't be more specific on
this.
In all fairness, back at the time this was being designed, that was the
standard way to have RAM that always remembered.

Man o' man I would hate to lose my Omni V.9 over this issue and not have
a viable alternative to pursue.
Though a long time ago, its just another quirky Ten Tec engineering
decision IMO. Their history is replete with them.
