I narrowed the problem to the A9 based on the symptoms I seen on the radio.
No 5 volts from A9 is not a good thing. However, this time I am uncertain if
the capacitors are the culprit. From a extremely knowledgeable source and my
experience, losing the 5V is uncommon. Gotta wait til Ten Tec repairs the
board.
As I previously mentioned, the capacitors for some reasoncontinye to be the
problem and this is the 3rd board that has been repaired. I would like to
get my hands on a A9 or at least have the caps on hand.
Another problem that has me climbing the walls is intermittent failure of
the sub-receiver. Most of time it is inop. I pulled the ribbon cable on the
screen and cleaned it but still the damn thing will not work. The reset dog
and pony show does not fix it.
Thanks for the input,
Mike

Mike,
Check your A9 board. I had trouble with my Orion display and was coming by
Ten-Tec so I dropped of the radio and had them also look at some other
items. I asked them to check the A9 board because the rig was about 10
years
old. They only change 2 of the capacitors on the board. Shortly after I
got
home, the screen started acting up again. I ordered a new A9 board and the
radio has since been fine. I just recently sold my old A9 board and the
buyer intends to replace all of the capacitors on the board.

John

About a month ago, a board in my 7+ year old Orion 1 failed. Called Paul
to
determine if they could repair the board - I was 98% sure the tech could
but
simply wanted to be certain.
I mailed it yesterday and expect to have it re-installed in Orion next
Friday.
The other issue was the screen which has a reputation for failure. The
original manufacturer no longer supplied the screen which left Ten Tec
scrambling and searching for a new supplier. They found one.
Perhaps they could have blown off finding a new supplier and told owners
"sorry about that - you have a $2000 or so paper weight".
