Then your Omni VI is broken. Repairing the Omni VI to make the mute
input function properly is probably preferable to building a workaround.
The mute input may not work because someone has modified the rig to use
the mute jack for some other function, or because something was
connected there that should not have been and damaged the rig.
Look at "FIGURE 4-18. CONTROL BOARD SCHEMATIC (81596)"
Check to see if D17 is intact. If it has not been removed then check to
see if it is any good.
If someone modified the rig to use that jack for some other purpose I
would expect to see D17 missing, and a wire connected from the J3 end
D17 solder pad to whatever it is they wanted access to. In that case
remover the wire and replace D17.
If it was damaged I would expect D17 to be open circuit. In that case
replace D17.
