I can tell you from direct experience that ARRL HQ is dominated by egos and has FAR less technical expertise than one would like to believe. There is no technical editing of most league publications, including QST. N0AX is doing a fine job with annual upgrades of the Handbook, with help from some other fine engineers, but it's an uphill battle with entrenched egos and misconceptions held by folks with little or inadequate technical education. Every time I open QST I find something that makes me cringe (and often more than one thing).
