Red faced and embarrassed, I am compelled to exhibit the depth of my
ignorance so that others may benefit from my folly:
It seems I had the cables plugged into the Remote Encoder jack instead of
the AUX I/O jack. Little did I know one size fits all and how can you tell
when you are reaching behind a radio just praying you can get the plug aligned
so it will fit in? I may put a piece of tape over the Remote jack just to be
sure this doesn't happen again.
The reason the receive audio varied with the volume control was that my
microphone was on top of the speaker and picking up the audio coming out of the
speaker and that was what was fed to my computer and displayed on the screen.
If I turned up the volume, the speaker was louder and the mic picked up more
audio.
Even with the cable plugged in the wrong jack I was able to record and
playback wave files because the Microkeyer was sending the audio to the right
places (Mic to computer / computer to mic).
I have reloaded 2.056 and verified that the Aux I/O is still a fixed level.
I think I need to go to bed before I do something else dumb.
