The Omni VI+ receive audio bandwith is limited to
1600hz or so because of internal passive components
(capacitors) and the audio signal passing through the
notch filter and DSP ICs regardless of whether those
circuits are engaged. This has been discussed ad
nauseum on this reflector in the past. This has no
bearing on the transmit audio bandwith.
It is possible to open up the receive bandwith a bit
by replacing some of the capacitors and installing a
wider filter, but unless the receive audio is
re-routed away from the notch filter and DSP IC's
(which is a problematic proposal) the receive audio
will always be a bit constricted on the Omni VI+.
