Another suggestion: Just before the contest, print out the contest
dxpedition list from NG3K's website and keep it close to the rig during
the contest. This will give you unusual calls expected and tell you
that there should be activity from those areas from which you might not
normally expect contest activity so you can keep an ear out and
occasionally point in directions away from the mass of QSO rate
stations.
73, John, K4BAI.
P.S. Keep in mind that there are still a few guys out there who do not
log US contacts after they get their one in the log for the multiplier.
This is poor practice, but it was the policy at the W7RM station until a
few years back, so it may still be done at other stations. So, when you
finally get through to zone 3 on 75 or whatever that may be a rare zone
for you, you might think of saying "thanks for the multiplier" or some
such thing to try to encourage the other guy to actually log this zero
point QSO.
