I agree, six times may be excessive in some instances, but here's my
thinking:  I always run high power and a beam on the high bands and
good, efficient wire antennas on the low bands. If he is having
trouble copying my exchange then things must be really bad and maybe
six times is justified.  

Also, sending it six times once is faster than sending three times and
having to repeat it again. 

I rarely get asked for repeats anyway, maybe once in 200 QSOs. In the
next contest I'm going to keep track and see.
