You're really talking about apples and oranges when comparing Rascal or Donner (which are really nothing more than a couple single transistor
switching circuits - about $2 in parts for Donner) and microHAM or
RigExpert which provide a dedicates sound card, the ability to do FSK
at various data rates, rig control and dual receive (though not with
the FT-450).

Anyone who is not looking for one of the full function interfaces would
be far better served to spend $9.95 for a USB sound dongle, $5 for an
inexpensive USB to RS-232 adapter with $2 in parts for PTT/CW/FSK and
perhaps another $5 for rig control and maybe $5 in miscellaneous plugs
to assemble their own functional equivalent of the inexpensive
interfaces. For $25 (< $15 if you already have a couple serial ports)
and a little time melting solder most amateurs can have the equivalent
of the $100 - $150 entry level interfaces.

Buxcom RASCAL. Cost around $40 and works FSK or AFSK. I use one with my
FT-450 in the camper.
