I've used Radioshack's ground loop isolators for many years with
excellent results. I always meant to write up my results in an article,
but never took the time to do it.
When I still had a shack, before I moved, I used one between the
computer and the Behringer mixer, and one between the mixer and the rig.
The big advantage of these devices is that they have a nearly flat
frequency response across the audio spectrum. Many transformers used in
various kits do not.
The 1:1 and that other step up audio transformer that Radioshack sells
are virtually useless. They create quite a strong electro magnetic
field even when fed with a small audio signal. When you put two of these
transformers in close proximity (less than 1.25 inch), make sure that
you orient them at 90 degrees from each other. But even then you will be
able to recover audio on one transformer while audio is only fed to the
other transformer. The 1:1 transformer they sell suffers from more than
the step up model they sell.
Adapter cables are easy to obtain from the same store, or bake your
own.
