Technical education has gotten more and more "Balkanized" as many
technologies have gotten more narrow and complex. My EE was '59-'64, and
I'm pretty sure that I would have learned about Fourier Series in math
courses, of which I had a lot. My first EE course was in my third year
of five (U of Cincy was co-op), so it was a five year course.
My focus in EE was analog -- I took as few courses as possible in power
systems, logic, or digital circuits. I'd been a ham since age 15, so had
a mental focus on RF.
