On page 23 of this link is a filter that I designed and W6GJB built
for our HF county expeditions for 7QP and CQP. It's designed to be
effective from 80M to 10M. It was added to the ARRL Handbook several
years ago.

For 6M and above, I suggest following the recommendations for
transmitting chokes wound with RG8-size power cables.

I purchased a small quiet off brand 1900 watt continuous generator

far away from the generator as possible. Putting it under heavier
load did not seem to make any difference nor did decreasing the load.
There is a ground lug on the unit but the forest service frowns on
people pounding in ground rods. Is there a more portable solution
for a ground. I have my doubts that it would change anything. I
should try hooking it up here at home and find out.

I did have some big clamp ons and I put them on the extension cord
and that seemed to help some. I could only get 2 to 3 turns through
the clamp ons and I had two. Maybe I need far more turns? I did not
the cabling handy to hookup directly to the car battery to see if the
extension cord was the radiator or if it was all coming out of the
generator.
Has anyone had any luck quieting them down?
