I have been using the circuit from page 18 of the CT9 manual with the one
transistor from the LPT port without any problems. Been using it on CT
9.31 - 9.47.

Hi everybody,
there IS a difference between CT9.27 (and prev) and later updates. I
had built an interface (optocoupled) few years ago, it worked ok up
to CT 9.27. It used only pin 1 against GND for keying. After
switching to CT9.3*, I had save behaviour like Frank. First bip
caused rig hang. I consulted the manual, and noticed second
transistor for enabling (pin 17??). I added it in my circuit and since
then: it is working well.
BTW my old interface worked fine with demo version of NA and TR.
